Anica Madeo

Anica is a collaborative change leader with expertise in higher education, community health, and non-profit management. Anica is particularly skilled at bridging high-level strategic planning with the realities of implementation to ensure that great ideas result in successful execution. She is passionate about helping people, teams, and organizations positively impact society.

Anica has over a decade of experience at the University of Michigan (U-M) with an emphasis on educational innovation, strategic initiatives, and university-community partnerships. Most recently, she led the operational launch of the Michigan Center for Interprofessional Education, a 5-year $6 million collaboration involving ten health science schools. Through that effort, Anica skillfully managed the competing demands of a start-up venture by providing change leadership and strategic advising, while developing clear and efficient structures and processes. She also taught university courses and helped develop a large-scale team decision-making course (for which she and her colleagues won the Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize).

Earlier in her career, Anica served as regional program director for a national non-profit. She provided capacity-building services to federally qualified health centers, including consultations and on-site trainings for project planning, grant writing, curriculum development, and program evaluation. Anica has authored and co-authored successful grant proposals, funded up to $3 million by university, community, and federal funders. She also has international health experience in Nicaragua, Guatemala, and Ecuador.

Anica embraces the Bridgeport philosophy of being a "proud generalist." Her robust experience has allowed her to hone her natural ability to identify connections and bring clarity to complex situations. She is a passionate learner who loves collaborative problem solving and believes wholeheartedly in building on the existing strengths of the people and organizations she serves.

Anica holds MPH and MSW degrees from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and School of Social Work.

Since joining Bridgeport in 2017, Anica has engaged a wide range of clients, including: Ann Arbor District Library, Chelsea District Library, Great Lakes Water Authority, Michigan Radio, Gleaners Foodbank of Southeast Michigan, Michigan Health Endowment Fund, The Conservation Fund, Michigan Advocacy Program, a host of units at the University of Michigan, several local municipalities, and individual coaching clients from the academic, health, and non-profit sectors.

“Anica has been amazing. Smart, thoughtful, skilled and emotionally intelligent. What a gift.”

Mary Jo Desprez

Director, U-M Wolverine Wellness

“Anica, thank you for planning and facilitating a truly wonderful event – the evaluation shows how much people enjoyed it, and it gives us a ton of direction and ideas for future convenings! This whole evaluation process has been incredibly helpful.”

Angela S. Tripp

Director, Michigan Legal Help Program

“Partnering with Bridgeport helped me put a structure around our strategic planning process and their wisdom and experience helped me to focus on the salient parts, knowing where there was opportunity for refinement and for growth. Their leadership and guidance kept me on task and we would not have gotten this project done without them.”

Kaaren Williamsen

Director, U-M SAPAC

“Two things impressed me about our work with Bridgeport: deep preparation, and gifted facilitation. The amount of work that the team spends in learning about the culture of the organization they are trying to help is unparalleled. They then work closely with leadership to ensure that the most important questions are asked during each session, and they manage the conversations skillfully, bringing about the ideas and solutions that will move the organization forward.”

Raj Mangrulkar

Associate Dean, U-M Medical School

“Kerry and her team bring their core values to bear in all their work, brilliantly combining rigor with fun, excellence with humility – and their positive “we got this” energy is simply infectious. Facilitating a strategic planning process for a college of over 20,000 people in 8 months is an ambitious undertaking (to say the least). Kerry and her team were the right people to help us get there with clarity of vision, impeccable organization, and a genuine sense of play and joy.”

Anne Curzan

Dean, U-M College of LSA

“Anica and Francine came well recommended and they delivered above and beyond my high expectations. The result was a strategic plan that reflects the input of a broad set of contributors and balances the aspirational with the attainable. In addition to their competence and valuable experience, they are a great pleasure to work with!”

Emy Brawley

Associate Director, The Conservation Fund

“Anica and Francine brilliantly organized our board’s strategic planning sessions around what they heard in their interviews with directors and staff. They listen well and value the diversity of our experience, perspectives, and personalities. It truly is a pleasure to work with Bridgeport Consulting.”

Paul Hillegonds

CEO, Michigan Health Endowment Fund

“My team eagerly anticipates our strategy sessions with Bridgeport. Besides being high-level professionals, they also have a heart for our mission and are people of the highest integrity and compassion. Their mix of “head and heart” have made them perfect to work with Gleaners.”

Gerry Brisson

President & CEO, Gleaners Community Food Bank

“Kerry and the team at Bridgeport have expertly shepherded the Chelsea District Library through two strategic planning processes (they are so good that we keep coming back!). With experience, warmth, insight, and humor, they facilitated the creation of thoughtful, responsive, and actionable roadmaps for library service to our community. We are a better library, thanks to Bridgeport!”

Lori Coryell

Director, Chelsea District Library

“Working with Bridgeport was such a delight! The end product reflected the thoughtful and insightful approach that I suspect is par for the course in working with Anica and the Bridgeport team. We stayed on budget, with clear expectations, and hit our goal spot on. I look forward to the next project!”
